Street art as marketing tool

Street art as a marketing tool to promote your company, restaurant and city. That is what is happening in Georgetown on the island Penang, Malaysia
The initiative was started in 2009. Street art was successfully used to make the city a UNESCO World Heritage Site. After an international pitch for the best branding, the street art was the winning concept. At first a unique series of steel caricatures which told stories about the history of the streets. In 2010 there were 52 steel sculptures which were a big tourist attraction. Later very popular murals by Ernest Zacharevic followed. Consequently the ´Marking Georgetown¨project opened its doors for many new and public art forms and commercial projects in Penang. The local Penang government have used the UNESCO title to brand Penang worldwide using art.
