Young people read less and less

The number of teenagers that reads at least 10 minutes a week continously has decreased enormously, according to the Social and Cultural Bureau in the Netherlands. In 2006 65% of Teenagers read a book at home. In 2016 it was only 40%.

Also the number of adolescents who read in their spare time has decreased from 87% in 2006 to 48% in 2016.

According to the bureau people of 65 and up read the most, 90%, and that hasn´t changed since 2006.

All in all the number of readers has decreased significantly in the last 10 years. In 2006 90% of people in the Netherlands read at least 10 minutes a week continously in 2016 only about 70%.
